4-H Camp

Hello 4-Her’s!
We are so excited to offer 4-H Camp this year! We will have a fun-filled week of classes and activities at West Ky 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs. Classes include archery, fishing, swimming, cooking, crafts and so much more!
We will be camping Monday, July 21-Thursday, July 24. 4-Her's must have completed the 3rd grade to attend camp. Those ages 16-17 will attend camp as a Teen Counselor.
If you register and then decide not to attend 4-H camp, please call 270-726-6323 immediately to let us know!!! Forms can be dropped off at the Extension Office Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm or can be left in the drop box beside the front door afterhours. Campers will not be allowed on the bus without all forms returned.
Camp Information
We will be traveling by school bus to camp on Monday, July 21st and returning to the Logan County Extension Office on Thursday, July 24th. Campers should meet the bus at the Extension Office between 8:00-8:30am on Monday morning. Campers should report to the front doors of the office to begin the check in process. Be sure the proper parent/guardian is at the office on time to pick up your child/children as the campers will only be released off the bus to the persons whom are listed as Legal Parents/Guardian, Emergency Contacts, or those listed on the “Pick-up Release” section of the paperwork. Parents/guardians will be asked to show their ID.

All campers’ medication for the week must be turned in Monday morning at the “medicine” registration table. This includes all prescription and non-prescription medicine! If your child routinely takes medication, please send it to camp and keep them on their normal routine. Please leave medicine in the original container and place the medicine in a Ziploc bag with the completed yellow Medication Form provided (name, medication title, time schedule, and dosage). It is suggested to only send the amount of medication your child will need during their stay at camp. (Example: If your child takes an allergy pill once a day, please only send 3 pills.) The camp Health Care Provider will administer the medicine at camp. The camp Health Care Provider will provide Tylenol or Ibuprofen for your child only if needed with signs of fever or severe headache as long as these medications are checked on the health form. You may send your own brand if your child experiences frequent headaches. If your child does not take medications, please write “NONE” on the yellow form and turn it in anyway. Epi Pens and inhalers must be noted on the Medication Form but may be carried with the camper.
We need a picture of your camper to give to the Health Care Provider once we get to camp. This will help locate your camper faster if they need to. Please print a headshot of your camper on a sheet of paper to submit with your camp paperwork or you can submit a headshot of your child to the Extension Office by emailing it to Rachel.meacham@uky.edu or katie.sandlin@uky.edu with your child’s name in the subject line.
SPENDING MONEY
4-H Campers may bring extra money for craft classes, country store, t-shirts, and other items. A roll of quarters is recommended due to the drink machines, which are open during the day. Do not send large bills! There will be three meals, and one nightly snack provided each day, which is included in the camp fee. Water in drink coolers will be available at all times. 4-Her’s can usually get by on $20-25 in extra spending money for candy bars, chips, snow cones, drinks, etc. The camp and 4-H program leaders will not be responsible for money that is lost or stolen (be sure to put the camper’s name on everything!). Remember to allow spending money for classes requiring fees, crafts, and souvenirs if desired. (See camp country store prices to get an idea of how much to bring.)
COUNTRY STORE and SOUVENIR PRICES
Each day campers will have the opportunity to visit the country store. They may purchase 4-H souvenirs, food, or drinks. The list of items and prices is enclosed. Hopefully, this will help you decide how much money to take to camp and be able to budget your money wisely.
In the event that we need to transport campers home early or there is a change in location for picking up a camper, parent phone number are kept in a database at the county Extension Office. The Extension Agent will notify our county office personnel, who will then begin notifying campers’ parents/guardians. The county staff will also have signs posted a the original location to direct parents/guardians to the new location in the event of a change in drop off/pick up location. (The Logan County Extension Office at 255 John Paul Ave, Russellville is the original drop off/pick up location for 4-H camp.) In the event of the need to evacuate the buses to and from camp, the school’s bus evacuation drill procedure will be followed. The transportation director will be notified immediately. In the event that the Health Care Provider is unable to provide the medical attention that a camper requires due to accident, injury, or sickness, a decision may be made by the Health Care Provider to send the camper to a medical facility off site. The 4-H agent will notify the parent(s) by phone if the camper is going off-site or needs further medical attention.
If you have any questions about camp, please contact the Logan County Extension Office or send an email to Maci Venable at maci.venable@uky.edu
